Teachers
Bianca Martins
Filmmaker and sound designer. Graduated in Audiovisual at SENAC – SP, and specialized in sound at EICTV, Cuba.
She has extensive experience working as a Sound Technician and Editor in nationally and internationally award-winning films and series. She participated in two editions of the Berlinale Talents (film industry training and networking event) as a Sound Designer: in 2018, at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, Mexico, and in 2020 at the Berlin International Film Festival, Germany. In addition to teaching sound workshops at film schools and festivals throughout Brazil, she also holds an international certification as a language teacher – Cambridge Celta Certificate – and teaches private classes in English and Spanish.
Julia Ferreira
Has more than 11 years experience as an Assistant Director in the audiovisual industry, in association with prestigious players such as Netflix, Star Plus, Disney, Paramount, HBO, Viacom, CBS, Globoplay, Mixer, O2, Gullane and others. She has worked in both English and Portuguese speaking sets in over twenty productions. She graduated from UNSW (University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia) in Media, Culture and Technology and has an extension degree in Cinema, Television and Culture Related Subjects from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid – Madrid, Spain. She is currently one of the English Teachers at LATC, teaching English for Audiovisual Industry Professionals, as well as for individual ESL Students.
Akemi Iwasa
Creates personalized content for language teaching publishers and bilingual school systems, while also working as a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion consultant for educational projects. With a postgraduate degree in Neuroscience (UFRJ) and ongoing studies in Human Rights and Corporate Social Responsibility (PUCRS), she has over 15 years of experience designing and delivering training sessions for educators. At the Latin American Training Center (LATC), Akemi moderates discussions for professionals in the audiovisual industry looking to improve their English-speaking skills while deepening their understanding of the industry.
Frances King
Highly qualified and experienced English Language Teacher with postgraduate Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) and twenty years experience in the field, both in the UK and in Brazil. Graduated originally in Art, Design and Media, she migrated into language teaching when she first migrated to Brazil in 2003. Now based in Rio de Janeiro, she has extensive experience in course design for adult language education in a variety of environments including universities and business schools, as well as social mobility projects for asylum seekers and prisons in the UK. Delighted to now be part of the LATC team!
Gabriel MENDES
Full-time teacher who loves to help other people to express themselves in English. He has a Portuguese/ English (UERJ) degree and years of study through songs, series, and movies. He has also been at an English school for over a decade. He is passionate about everything involving the language and its cultural differences. Teaching for LATC and helping audiovisual professionals seek new opportunities is what moves him at the moment.
Tatiana Cavalcanti
Victor Viana
Educator with fourteen years of experience as an English teacher in several educational institutions in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. He has gained international experience at the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom, and at the Walt Disney World Resort, in the United States. Victor holds a degree in Portuguese and English from UFRJ and is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Interpersonal Relations in School. His areas of interest include human development and anti-racist education.
milagros pedace
Milagros Pedace is an English Language and Literature teacher (graduated from the National University of La Plata) with experience teaching English to children, teenagers and adults at various levels. At LATC, she teaches English to professionals in the audiovisual industry in small groups, facilitating active and practical participation through exclusive educational materials focused on relevant topics in the sector. She promotes a relaxed environment where participants can expand their knowledge of the field and English.
